Introductory CS Course Featured at Google Event

Dave Wolber's Introduction to CS class was featured at a Google User Group Meeting. Freshmen Aaron Draczynski and Matt Cline demonstrated the 'Bookface' social network software they created with Google App Engine. Way to go Aaron and Matt!

Guido van Rossum speaks in CS110

Guido took time out from his busy schedule working at Google to speak to Dave Wolber's CS110 (intro to programming) course.  The students learn to program via Python and enjoyed talking directly with the creator of Python today in their class.  Enclosed are some snapshots.

New Sun OpenJDK project using ANTLR research

USF graduate student Yang Jiang has been working at Sun building a version of the standard javac Java compiler that uses an ANTLR Java grammar instead of the handbuilt parser in there now. He has made amazing progress. Here is the new project at Sun.

"The goal of this Project is to develop an experimental version of the javac compiler based upon a grammar written in ANTLR." 

University of San Francisco introduces Accelerated MS in Web Science

The Universiy of San Francisco is now accepting applications for a 1-year accelerated Master's degree in Web Science (MSWS). The first cohort of students will begin studying Fall 2009. Applicants must have very strong software development backgrounds to be accepted.

According to CNN, CS is one of the ten most popular undergrad majors and graduates begin at $46,849.00 / year.
